## Angel Beats! **Angel Beats!** is a 2010 anime television series produced by P.A. Works, with an original story by Jun Maeda and scenario by Key. It blends action, comedy, and deeply affecting drama in a setting unlike anything else in anime — a high school afterlife where the dead must come to terms with what they leave behind. Otonashi wakes up in what appears to be an ordinary school, except that he is dead — and he has no memory of his life. A girl named Yuri explains that this is a limbo afterlife and that the student council president, a stoic girl they call Angel, enforces a set of rules that lead students to "pass on" — meaning cease to exist. Yuri leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (SSS), a rebel group that fights against Angel to avoid disappearing, believing that accepting "God's plan" means surrendering their right to live. As Otonashi grows closer to his fellow rebels — each hiding their own wounds from their past lives — and begins to question Yuri's interpretation of their situation, the story unfolds into something far more moving and complex than it first appears. Angel Beats! is at its core a meditation on grief, acceptance, and the things we wish we could have said.
