Synopsis

## Ascendance of a Bookworm **Ascendance of a Bookworm** (*Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen*, lit. *Ascendance of a Bookworm: I'll Do Anything to Become a Librarian!*) is an isekai anime adapted from Miya Kazuki's light novel series, with animation by Ajia-do. The first season aired in autumn 2019, followed by two more seasons through 2022. Across three seasons it built one of the most unusually grounded isekai narratives in the genre — one whose protagonist's goal is not to become the strongest, but to create books. Urano Motosu is a bibliophile — a young woman who loves books more than anything. On the day she finally lands her dream job at a library, she is crushed to death by a collapsing bookshelf. She wakes up as Myne, a frail five-year-old girl in a medieval fantasy world where books are extremely rare, handwritten, enormously expensive, and accessible only to the nobility. Myne's passion survives the reincarnation intact: she wants to read. Since she cannot afford to buy books, and the literacy rate in this world is minimal, she decides to make books — working from memory of her previous life, she begins by trying to recreate paper, then ink, then the mechanics of a press. *Ascendance of a Bookworm* earns its reputation by treating this project with genuine seriousness: it is an isekai driven not by combat or power fantasy, but by craft, persistence, economics, and the love of knowledge. Myne is resourceful and determined without being superhuman, and the world she navigates — with its class structures, religious hierarchies, and social norms — pushes back at every turn.
