Synopsis
## Cardcaptor Sakura
**Cardcaptor Sakura** (カードキャプターさくら) is a 1998 anime television series produced by Madhouse, adapted from CLAMP's manga. One of the most beloved anime series of the 1990s, it stands as a pinnacle of the magical girl genre — technically accomplished, emotionally generous, and thematically rich in ways that transcend its target demographic. The series has maintained a devoted international following for over 25 years and remains a touchstone of anime history.
Sakura Kinomoto is a cheerful, athletic fourth-grader in Tomoeda, Japan who one afternoon opens a strange book in her father's library and accidentally releases a set of magical Clow Cards — powerful artifacts created by the legendary sorcerer Clow Reed — into the world. Kero, the card guardian (who resembles a small stuffed lion), wakes from his centuries-long sleep and informs Sakura that she must recover all the escaped cards before they cause disasters with their immense magical power. Equipped with a magic staff and the title of "Cardcaptor," Sakura spends the series capturing cards with help from her best friend Tomoyo (who films everything) and the reluctant rival-turned-friend Syaoran Li. The series is notable for its warmth, its beautifully designed Clow Cards, and its remarkably progressive handling of love in all its forms for a children's series.
