## Gate When a portal disgorges a fantasy army into modern Tokyo, Japan's military marches through the gate into a world of dragons and empires, led by an otaku off-duty officer. A mysterious "Gate" suddenly materializes in Tokyo's Ginza district, unleashing a medieval army of knights, monsters, and dragons that slaughter civilians before modern forces repel them. Japan's Self-Defense Forces march back through the portal to establish a base in the fantastical "Special Region" beyond. Among them is Youji Itami, an easygoing officer and unabashed otaku whose love of fantasy oddly suits the mission. As Itami's unit explores this realm of empires and magic, befriending an elf, a demigod, and a young mage, they navigate diplomacy, culture clash, and war between Japan and a vast imperial power.
