## Parasyte: The Maxim *Parasyte: The Maxim* (*Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu*) is a gripping sci-fi horror anime that uses its alien invasion premise to explore questions about humanity, empathy, and what separates humans from monsters. Parasitic aliens have begun infiltrating human bodies, taking over their brains and feeding on other humans. Shinichi Izumi, a high school student, is almost taken over — but his parasite, Migi, only manages to infect his right hand. Forced into a symbiotic relationship, Shinichi and Migi must coexist and cooperate to survive while other parasites target them both. As Shinichi becomes increasingly inhuman through his exposure to violence and Migi gradually develops something resembling empathy, the series asks profound questions about consciousness, ecology, and the nature of evil.
