Synopsis

## Perfect Blue **Perfect Blue** is a 1997 psychological thriller film directed by Satoshi Kon and produced by Madhouse. Widely considered one of the greatest anime films ever made, it is a harrowing study of identity, obsession, and the price of fame that still resonates deeply decades after its release. Darren Aronofsky famously cited the film as an influence on his own work, and the visual language Kon developed here echoes throughout contemporary psychological cinema. Mima Kirigoe is a member of the pop idol group CHAM! who decides to leave the music industry and pursue a career as an actress. The transition is anything but smooth — her devoted fanbase feels betrayed, and a mysterious website called "Mima's Room" claims to document her innermost thoughts, written by someone who knows her far too well. As Mima takes on increasingly disturbing acting roles, the line between her performances and reality begins to collapse. People around her start dying, and Mima finds herself unable to trust her own memories or perceptions. Is she a murderer? Is the perfect idol version of herself coming to destroy her? Satoshi Kon's debut feature is a masterclass in unreliable narration, using seamless cuts between reality and fantasy to put the viewer inside a fractured psyche.
