Synopsis
## Sailor Moon
**Sailor Moon** (美少女戦士セーラームーン, *Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn*) is a 1992 anime television series produced by Toei Animation, adapted from Naoko Takeuchi's manga. The first season of what would become a landmark multi-series franchise, Sailor Moon is one of the most culturally significant anime ever made — it reinvented the magical girl genre, brought anime to an international audience of young girls who had rarely seen themselves as the hero, and defined the aesthetic of an entire decade of animation and fashion.
Usagi Tsukino is a clumsy, crybaby 14-year-old schoolgirl who is, by every measure, ordinary. But when a talking cat named Luna presents her with a magical brooch and reveals that she is Sailor Moon — a warrior destined to protect the Earth — her ordinary life ends forever. Fighting against the Dark Kingdom's energy-draining monsters alongside her fellow Sailor Scouts (Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus), Usagi must also discover the identity of the mysterious masked vigilante Tuxedo Mask, who keeps appearing at her side. Beneath the monster-of-the-week format lie recurring themes of friendship, self-sacrifice, and the discovery of inner strength that gave the series its enduring emotional resonance. The first season builds to a finale that, for many viewers who grew up with it, remains genuinely devastating.
