Synopsis

## SHIROBAKO *SHIROBAKO* is widely regarded as the definitive behind-the-scenes anime about making anime — a 24-episode original series from P.A. Works that captures the creative chaos, relentless deadlines, and quiet triumphs of working in the animation industry. It is both a love letter to anime production and an unflinchingly honest look at how difficult it really is. Highly recommended on Crunchyroll. Five high school friends — Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara, Shizuka Sakaki, Misa Toudou, and Midori Imai — make an anime together for their school's animation club and vow to reunite someday to make a real professional anime. The series jumps forward in time to find them each navigating early careers in the industry: Aoi works as a production assistant at fictional studio Musashino Animation, Ema has become an animator, Shizuka is pursuing voice acting with limited success, Misa works at a 3D CG studio, and Midori is still in college but interning wherever she can. The series follows Aoi most closely as she juggles the demands of keeping multiple productions on schedule — a job that requires equal parts diplomacy, logistics, and sheer willpower. *SHIROBAKO* excels at showing just how many people and how much expertise go into a single episode of anime: key animators, in-between animators, directors, episode directors, sound designers, voice actors, producers, and dozens more. The characters are richly drawn and the drama feels genuinely earned. The anime manages to be both educational and emotionally resonant — you come away understanding exactly why anime production is so grueling, and why so many people dedicate their careers to it anyway. One of the great workplace dramas in all of anime.
