Synopsis
## The Devil is a Part-Timer!
**The Devil is a Part-Timer!** (*Hataraku Maou-sama!*, lit. *The Devil Wants to Work Part-Time!*) is a 2013 comedy anime adapted from the light novel series by Satoshi Wagahara, produced by White Fox. It became a cult classic for delivering exactly what its absurd premise promises — and then going further, building surprisingly warm character relationships on top of the gag. A second season aired in 2022.
Demon Lord Satan is on the verge of conquering the fantasy world of Ente Isla when Hero Emilia and her companions push him to the brink of defeat. Forced to flee through a dimensional portal, Satan and his loyal general Alciel land in modern-day Tokyo — powerless, penniless, and baffled. To survive in the human world, Satan takes the name Sadao Maou, rents a tiny apartment, and gets a job at MgRonald's, a fast food chain he attacks with the same tactical dedication he once brought to world domination. He's a very good employee. His natural charisma and work ethic see him steadily promoted while Alciel manages the household budget with demonic precision. Meanwhile, Hero Emilia also ends up in Tokyo, working as a customer service representative and increasingly frustrated that her sworn enemy is a model citizen who makes excellent french fries. *The Devil is a Part-Timer!* works because it commits fully to the mundane: the comedy is always the gap between who these characters are and what they're now doing, and the show earns genuine affection for all of them.
