## Weathering with You **Weathering with You** (天気の子, *Tenki no Ko*) is a 2019 animated romantic fantasy film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. Produced by CoMix Wave Films, it is Shinkai's follow-up to the phenomenally successful *Your Name* (2016) and continues his preoccupation with love, separation, and the sublime power of the natural world. The film was Japan's entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and became one of the highest-grossing anime films in history. Hodaka Morishima is a runaway high school boy who arrives in Tokyo with nothing and quickly finds himself struggling to survive in the enormous, rain-soaked city. He eventually finds work at a small occult magazine and stumbles upon Hina Amano, a cheerful, resilient girl working multiple jobs to support herself and her younger brother. Hina reveals a secret: she is a "sunshine girl," a human who has the mystical ability to temporarily clear the rain and bring sunlight to a patch of sky. Together they start a small business offering this service, and despite themselves fall deeply in love. But Hina's power has a terrible cost, and when the moment of reckoning arrives, Hodaka must choose between the world and the girl — and makes an answer the gods themselves cannot easily accept.
