Synopsis
## Wolf Children
**Wolf Children** (おおかみこどもの雨と雪, *Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki*) is a 2012 animated drama film written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda, produced by Studio Chizu. It is widely regarded as Hosoda's most emotionally profound work — a generational story about identity, belonging, and the impossible task of loving someone fully while letting them go. The film's portrayal of single motherhood has been praised as one of the most humane in all of animation.
College student Hana falls deeply in love with a mysterious man who eventually confesses to her that he is the last wolfman — a descendant of the legendary Japanese wolf. They have two children together: a girl they name Yuki and a boy named Ame. But their happiness is shattered when the wolfman dies suddenly in an accident, leaving Hana entirely alone to raise two children who can shift between human and wolf form at will. To protect them from curious eyes, Hana moves the family from Tokyo to a remote rural village. Over the following decade, she raises Yuki and Ame with extraordinary love and resilience, even as the two children begin to diverge sharply — one embracing her human side, one drawn ever more powerfully toward the call of the wild. The film is a beautiful and heartbreaking exploration of what it means to be a parent.
