Synopsis
## Yu Yu Hakusho
*Yu Yu Hakusho* is one of the most important anime ever made — a cornerstone of the 90s shonen era that paved the way for everything from *Naruto* to *Hunter x Hunter*. Adapted from Yoshihiro Togashi's manga by Pierrot, the series ran from 1992 to 1994 with 112 episodes and remains as compelling today as it was then. Stream on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.
Yusuke Urameshi is a 14-year-old street delinquent with a reputation for fighting but no real direction in life. When he throws himself in front of a car to save a young child, the spirit world is caught off guard — no one expected a punk like Yusuke to sacrifice himself. Because his death was unplanned, Koenma, the ruler of the Spirit World, offers Yusuke a deal: complete a series of trials and he can return to life. Yusuke earns his resurrection and is appointed Spirit Detective, charged with investigating supernatural cases on Earth. Together with his childhood rival-turned-ally Kazuma Kuwabara, the reformed demon fox Kurama, and the cold fire demon Hiei, Yusuke faces escalating threats across four major arcs: the Spirit Detective arc, the Dark Tournament, the Chapter Black saga, and the Three Kings arc. Each arc fundamentally changes the series' scale, stakes, and thematic depth. The Dark Tournament arc in particular is widely considered one of the greatest tournament arcs in anime history — brutal, emotionally resonant, and full of spectacular fights. Togashi's ability to write complex antagonists and subvert shonen conventions gives *Yu Yu Hakusho* a depth that still surprises new viewers.
