## Naruto Shippuden Returns — Remastered, Restored, and Ready for 2027
Studio Pierrot and Viz Media have jointly announced a full HD remaster of *Naruto Shippuden* as part of the franchise's 20th anniversary celebrations. The project — officially titled *Naruto Shippuden: 20th Anniversary Edition* — promises restored animation, re-recorded audio for select pivotal scenes, and a long-requested filler-free cut for international streaming platforms.
**What the remaster includes**
The remaster goes beyond a simple upscaling. According to the announcement, the team has gone back to original production materials to restore key scenes that suffered from budget constraints or rushed production during the original 2007–2017 run. Specific battles — including the Pain arc climax, the Sasuke vs. Itachi conclusion, and several entries from the Fourth Great Ninja War — have been identified for enhanced animation treatment.
The filler-free cut, estimated at approximately 250 episodes reduced from the original 500, will be available as a separate viewing option on streaming platforms. Purists and newcomers alike have reasons to celebrate: the complete version remains available for those who want the full original experience.
**Audio restoration**
The Japanese voice cast for iconic scenes has returned to re-record certain emotional peaks where the original audio quality did not meet modern standards. The English dub — produced by VIZ — has also undergone significant re-mastering, with select scenes receiving new recordings to match the restored visuals.
**Why this matters for the franchise**
*Naruto Shippuden* remains one of the highest-watched anime series globally, yet its streaming presentation has long been hampered by inconsistent video quality, filler padding, and audio drift issues. This remaster directly addresses the most common criticisms from newcomers attempting the series for the first time in 2026.
It also sets a precedent: if successful, Studio Pierrot has hinted that the original *Naruto* (2002) series may receive similar treatment.
**Streaming and release**
The remaster is slated for a phased global rollout beginning in early 2027, coinciding with the anniversary events. A theatrical event with select episodes — including the Pain arc in 4K — is also being discussed for major markets.
