Synopsis

## D.Gray-man *D.Gray-man* by Katsura Hoshino is a long-running supernatural action manga set in a dark 19th-century world where human souls are weaponized against an immortal enemy. Famous for its intricate mythology, emotionally devastating character arcs, and Hoshino's richly detailed artwork, it has sustained a devoted global fanbase across two decades despite a notoriously disrupted publication history. In a world haunted by **Akuma** — demonic weapons created from the resurrected souls of deceased loved ones by the sinister Millennium Earl — the **Black Order** fights to prevent the Earl from collecting the 7,000 pieces of the mighty substance called **Innocence**, which could destroy all of humanity. **Allen Walker** is a young exorcist with a cursed eye that lets him see the tortured souls within Akuma, and a left arm that transforms into an anti-Akuma weapon using his own Innocence. Recruited into the Black Order's European headquarters, Allen joins a team of exorcists — including the fierce samurai **Kanda Yu**, the flame-wielding **Lavi**, and the elegant **Lenalee Lee** — to battle the Earl's increasingly terrifying forces, including the elite Noah Clan. The manga is defined by its atmosphere of perpetual tragedy: the Akuma are unwilling victims, not monsters, and the cost of being an exorcist is measured in grief as much as victory.
