Synopsis

## Dandadan *Dandadan* by Yukinobu Tatsu is one of the defining manga of the early 2020s — a ferociously energetic supernatural action comedy that tears through genres at full speed while somehow maintaining genuine emotional coherence. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump+ since 2021, it quickly became one of the platform's biggest hits and received a celebrated anime adaptation in 2024. Momo Ayase is a girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens. Ken Okarun is a boy who believes in aliens but not ghosts. After a confrontation between them, they make a bet: Momo will visit a haunted location to prove the supernatural is real, while Okarun will go to an alien hotspot. Both immediately encounter the thing they didn't believe in. Okarun is abducted and, in the process of being experimented on, accidentally gains supernatural powers. Momo summons a ghost, awakens her own spiritual abilities as a descendant of a legendary medium, and helps rescue him. From there, the series escalates into a relentless string of supernatural and extraterrestrial encounters, each one stranger and more inventive than the last, while the increasingly complicated relationship between Momo and Okarun develops at the center of it all. Tatsu's art is extraordinarily dynamic — a visual language borrowed from horror, mecha, and shonen battle manga that somehow holds together into something uniquely its own.
