Synopsis

## Kakegurui *Kakegurui* is a stylish psychological thriller set in a school where gambling determines social hierarchy — elevated by its bizarre, compelling protagonist and the manga's knack for high-stakes tension. Hyakkaou Private Academy is unlike any other school: its students are the children of the world's elite, and within its walls, a student's social standing is determined entirely by gambling. The student council governs through debt and dominance, enslaving those who lose into "house pets." When transfer student Yumeko Jabami arrives, she seems like the perfect prey — beautiful, naive, easily exploited. She is, in fact, a compulsive gambler who doesn't care about winning money: she gambles for the pure ecstatic thrill of risking everything. Yumeko tears through the school's carefully constructed hierarchy not out of ambition, but because she genuinely loves gambling more than anything else in the world. The manga excels at creating elaborate, tension-filled gambling games and presenting Yumeko as a force of nature who inverts every power dynamic she enters. The Netflix anime adaptation (2017) brought the series global recognition; the manga captures the full story.
