Synopsis

## Reborn! (Katekyo Hitman Reborn) *Katekyo Hitman Reborn!* is a beloved mafia-themed action manga by Akira Amano, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2004 to 2012 across 409 chapters and 42 volumes. Beginning as a comedy about a hapless middle schooler being trained as a mafia boss by an infant hitman, it pivots into one of the most ambitious action-battle manga of its era — introducing elaborate weapon systems, time travel mechanics, and spectacularly designed antagonists. It is famous for its "Dying Will" power system, its richly realized ensemble cast, and the extraordinary leap in quality between its comedic early chapters and its epic middle arcs. Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada is the most pathetically unsuccessful middle schooler imaginable — failing grades, no athletic ability, no friends, and a nickname of "Loser Tsuna" that tells you everything you need to know. His life changes completely when a tiny infant named Reborn arrives at his house, claiming to be the world's greatest hitman and announcing that he has been sent to train Tsuna to become the Tenth Boss of the Vongola Family, the most powerful Mafia family in Italy — because Tsuna is, impossibly, the closest living heir. Reborn trains Tsuna using special Dying Will Bullets that, when they hit someone at the moment of regret, cause them to come back to life for a short period with incredible power and absolute resolve. The early chapters are broadly comedic as Tsuna accidentally gains a Famiglia of eccentric allies — the storm guardian Gokudera, the rain guardian Yamamoto, the delinquent Ryohei, the cold Hibari, the sunny Lambo, and the mysterious Mukuro. But the series pivots dramatically with the arrival of the Varia — the Vongola's elite assassination squad — and a dangerous Ring Inheritance Battle. Later arcs introduce parallel universes, the Ten-Year Bazooka time travel device, and a spectacularly designed final antagonist in the form of the Arcobaleno curse arc. Amano's character design sensibility is extraordinary — every major character is visually distinct and iconic.
