Synopsis

## Solanin *Solanin* is Inio Asano's breakthrough work — a compact, devastating story about the paralysis of early adulthood and the question of what it means to have something worth fighting for. Meiko Inoue has just graduated and is working a dead-end office job she hates in Tokyo. Her boyfriend Naruo — who goes by "Taneda" — drifts through part-time work and bandmates who are slowly giving up on music. Both of them are stuck in the amber of post-college inertia: too comfortable to leave, too dissatisfied to stay. When Meiko quits her job on impulse, it sets off a chain of decisions that reshapes both of their lives. The manga follows the band's last-chance attempt to make music matter, while Asano quietly builds toward a moment of irreversible grief. *Solanin* is a love story, a music story, and a story about what happens when ambition and comfort fail to coexist — all of it told in Asano's signature style of precise realistic linework and photographic cityscapes. It was adapted into a live-action film in 2010.
