After the conclusion of Season 4 in 2022 and the subsequent theatrical films, *Overlord* is returning for a fifth season. The announcement came at AnimeJapan, and it carried a surprise: the series is moving from Madhouse to a new production studio. Madhouse, which animated all four seasons, confirmed they have stepped back from the project; the new studio has not yet been officially named.
**What Season 5 will cover**
*Overlord* Season 5 will adapt Volume 14 and 15 of the light novel — covering the "Witch of the Falling Kingdom" arc and its aftermath. Volume 14 is widely considered the most politically sophisticated arc in the series: the story of the Re-Estize Kingdom's final days as Ainz Ooal Gown's plans approach fruition. Warning: it is also one of the darkest arcs in the series.
**Fan concerns about the studio change**
Madhouse's visual consistency across four seasons gave *Overlord* a stable identity even as production quality fluctuated. A studio change creates legitimate questions. The new studio has yet to release any production artwork. Industry sources suggest Kugane Maruyama's team has been involved in the selection process and is confident in the choice — but fans will need to see actual footage before those concerns can be addressed.
