Synopsis
## Hunter x Hunter
*Hunter x Hunter* by Yoshihiro Togashi is one of the most sophisticated and audacious manga ever serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump — a series that has repeatedly redefined what a battle manga can be, at the cost of legendary hiatus periods.
Gon Freecss is a boy who discovers that his supposedly dead father Ging is actually one of the world's greatest Hunters — elite licensed professionals who hunt down rare treasures, exotic animals, and powerful criminals. Gon sets off to become a Hunter himself, making friends along the way: the assassin-in-training Killua, the vengeful Kurapika who hunts the Phantom Troupe that massacred his clan, and the aspiring doctor Leorio. The manga is structured in long, self-contained arcs — the Hunter Exam, the Zoldyck Estate, Heavens Arena, Greed Island, the Chimera Ant arc (often called one of the greatest storylines in manga history), the 13th Hunter Chairman Election, and the ongoing Succession War arc. Togashi's writing is renowned for featuring fully realized antagonists, complex power systems (Nen), psychological depth, and structural inventiveness. The manga holds the record for the most gaps in serialization of any major manga, with frequent multi-year hiatuses due to Togashi's health. The Succession War arc resumed in 2022-2023 after a four-year break and is ongoing as of 2026.
